We are pleased to announce the establishment of a challenging new component to Days of Knights - The Chaucer Award competition.
In order to encourage participation in the event by new-comers to historically accurate medieval living history, participants are invited to take part in this contest. A panel of judges - expert in the clothing and accessories of medieval times and experienced in reenacting this era - will judge entrants for the accuracy of their impressions. Contestants will be expected to answer basic questions about the character they are portraying.
Two awards will be given - one for men, and one for women. Each winner will receive a $200 cash award. Judging for this competition will be held as part of the event on Saturday, October 13, and award winners will be announced on Sunday.
Contest entrants should expect to be able to answer inquiries from the judges regarding details of their costumes. Judges will be concerned with fabrics and other component materials, fabrication techniques, appropriateness to the time and place being depicted (any impression from 1000AD to 1600AD is permitted), and other details.
